National Workshop to Craft Cambodia’s Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Roadmap
In December 2019, the Prime Minister of Cambodia approved the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy 2020-2030. This policy seeks to harness the power of STI for the realisation of Cambodia’s Vision 2050 to become an upper-middle income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. To achieve this ambitious goal, the Government of Cambodia has requested ESCAP’s support to develop a roadmap for the successful implementation of the policy.
After conducting a series interviews with stakeholders from the government, higher-education institutions, and the private sector, a draft STI Roadmap blueprint has been prepared to serve as a basis for discussion among stakeholders over a two-day workshop. During the workshop, a broad range of champions from the public and private sector, academia, and civil society will review the draft STI Roadmap, and fine tune it to ensure it's relevant, complete, and feasible.
The development of the STI Roadmap is led by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) with the support of ESCAP.
An analytical report on the STI ecosystem of Cambodia has also been produced by ESCAP to inform the formulation of robust, evidence-based STI policies in Cambodia. It examines the current policy frameworks, key stakeholders, and the strengths and weaknesses of the national innovation system. It is now available for download here in both English and Khmer.
