Expert Group Meeting: Regional Consultation on “Guidelines for inclusive technology and innovation policies for sustainable development”
VIRTUAL MEETING, THAILAND
BY INVITATION ONLY
Technology and innovation can potentially increase the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of efforts to meet the ambitions of the 2030 Agenda. However, technology and innovation can be a source of inequality and exclusion. As recognized by the UN General Assembly, the promise of science, technology and innovation remains unfulfilled for the poor. A variety of policies and initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region promote inclusive technology and innovation.
The consultation will be an opportunity to:
• Share national experiences – including effective practices and lessons learned – in promoting inclusive technology and innovation for sustainable development;
• Provide comments on the draft guidelines for inclusive technology and innovation policies for sustainable development and ways to develop these to be more practical for national implementation and use;
• Indicate support that may be required from United Nations ESCAP to promote the formulation of national inclusive technology and innovation policies for sustainable development;
• Co-create ideas and put forward recommendations to United Nations ESCAP to advance this agenda regionally.
